The doctors recommended me bone marrow transplantation. i want to do it but i can’t afford the medical expenses. What other options do i have? Write me soon please.
I am sorry to hear that but I live in the US now and only know of the hospitals in Boston that do this. They are the best in the world in my opinion. But as far as Ethiopia. you should try the Internet in your country. Perhaps there is a hospital there. Start with your country, that is your best bet. Sorry, can’t give you any other help. I will pray for you though. God bless you. And good luck. Hope you find what you need.

Pernicious anemia is a disease where you have the inability to absorb vitamin B12 due to the lack of Intrinsic Factor, which is usually produced in the stomach by certain cells of the lining of that organ. Usually, it is due to an antibody that leads to disruption of the cells. When you have a depletion of the B12 level, it can lead to fatigue because of the anemia that ensues. B12 deficiency also leads to certain neuropathies such as pain or numbness that starts in the extremities. Severe cases can lead to confusion and encephalopathy. Because the problem is in gastrointestinal absorption, simply taking supplements is usually not enough. Injectional B12 may be necessary.

I’m a fins-and-feathers vegetarian (meaning I only eat birds and fish, no red meat or pork). Is it true that the meats I eat have less iron and could lead to a iron deficiency?
Ok, according to some of you I’m not a vegetarian, even tho I don’t eat mammals. But that’s really not what I’m asking…….
You’re kidding, right? Ever watch the old Popeye cartoons?
I know it’s a pretty ludicrous sounding answer, but in all seriousness, dark leafy greens are a HUGE source of iron. There are a large number of other fruits and vegetables that also contain large supplies of iron.
On top of that, they don’t have the excess "luggage" that their meat counterparts carry with them…

My son and I have hereditary spherocytosis. Providing that I am not anemic, can I donate blood?
You are probably best to call your local blood donation centre and double check.

Can taking iron supplements help overcome anemia caused by kidney disease/failure? And why does kidney disease/failure often cause nausea and loss of appetite? Thank you!
Iron alone would not help as kidney failure results in too low levels of erythropoietin, a hormone the kidneys makes that induces the bone marrow to make RBCs.
Iron often is given, but the levels have to be monitored, as iron overload can lead to serious toxicity, including liver toxcity.
In all cases of anemia, iron levels have to be measured to justify iron supplementation.
