Authors of the study gave diaries to 232 sickle cell disease patients to record daily pain and indicate whether they used hospital emergency or unscheduled ambulatory care for their pain. Previous estimates about sickle cell pain assumed that if patients didn’t go to the hospital or seek medical care for pain, they didn’t have pain. Previous sickle cell treatments also were based on the number of visits to hospitals to relieve pain.

Are they going to give her a blood transfusion of just red blood cells? If they’re not doing a bone marrow transplant, then that might be what they’re doing. The only advice I can give you without knowing for sure it that’s what she’s having, is this; it’s very important you keep away from her if you feel a cold coming on or you have any type of illness that she could catch simply because her immune system is compromised and she won’t be able to fight off infection as easily as you and I can. So that’s the most important thing to keep in mind. Does she live with you or is she out on her own? If she’s home, you can help her from getting to tired by offering to do things for her. She will need some help because she is going to get very tired from time to time. You know your sister better than anyone. You know her likes and dislikes so only you can really help her. I hope she does well. God bless you for wanting to help her.

I have all the symptoms of Anemia and have been back to the doctors to ask what else it could be she just basically said she doesn’t know. I’m under 16 and female. Doctors keep saying they don’t know! Does anyone know any complications there could be? Or anything else that makes you feel like this?

i was diagnosed with anemia when i was 15.. i had the symptoms as far as always being tired, weak and sluggish, no strength whatsoever, i slept 12 hours and was still tired, etc..

i had a blood test done and my iron levels were down to 7 when it’s supposed to be 14 for a girl..

anemia isn’t life-threatening, but it can be serious if it’s not taken care of.. i would take iron pills and make sure you try to eat healthier..

i changed my diet b/c i refuse to take iron pills.. they make you constipated really bad and it’s hard to move your bowels..

i started eating red meat b/c it has a lot of iron and protein in it.. salmon or any type of fish fillet is very high in iron as well.. also, eat a lot of green vegetables, especially broccoli and spinach..

you could start off with a well-balanced breakfast, such as eggs or a bowl of cereal, just make sure that it has more iron, calcium, fiber etc rather than more sugar in it.. whole grain cheerio’s would be good enough.. drink a glass of milk for calcium and a glass of OJ for vitamin C..

for lunch, eat a salad or burger which will give you your iron.. and maybe a yogurt..

at dinner, just make sure you have something relatively healthy..

if all else fails, take a daily vitamin everyday to give you the iron and other nutrients that you’re missing throughout the day.. that’s what i do.. or try to get more blood tests done to find out what is triggering the symptoms.. there has to be something that isn’t being picked up.. a CBC, or complete blood count will show everything, as far as iron (red blood cells), infection (white blood cells), hepatic (liver) function, etc.. they go by parameters so if you’re anemic, you’re red blood cells will not be within parameters and it’ll be less than what it should be..

good luck to you.. anemia isn’t the greatest thing to have, but a lot of people have it..

No being anemic does not increase your chances of getting gestational diabetes. You just have low iron. Meaning you need to stay on and take your prenatals faithfully, eat a higher iron diet, and may have to take an iron supplement. But first ask your doctor. Important thing is you stay hydrated. Your doctor will check for gestational diabetes at around 24 weeks gestation. He/she will let you know what the test results are then. If you are afraid of getting it. Stay away from sweets and foods and drinks with a lot of sugar in it. Such as soda. Good luck.

The naval doctors recently found out he has hemolytic anemia. He has apparently had it all his life. It leaves him feeling very fatigued and at times very ill.He has tried iron pills,changing his diet nothing seems to help. The naval doctors haven’t said much yet. He would like to get medically discharged from the Navy due to this condition. Is it possible? And how does he go about presenting his case?

1) The doctors will prepare a medical board report. If he has over 3 years service, there is a presumption of service aggravation. That report will be sent to the Physical Evaluation Board for a determination of disability rating. If the rating is 30% or less, and your husband accepts it, he will be discharged with severance pay. If the percentage is 30% or higher he will be transferred to the Disability Retired List, with all base privileges for his dependents and himself (including medical benefits).
2) If he has less than three years of service, the medical board will recommend his discharge for a disqualifying medical condition which existed prior to his entry.
