a plastic anemia treatment?

July 29th, 2010 by admin

My sister is having treatment for aplastic anemia now soon, i was wondering if anyone else has had this its not a bone marrow transplant as its not that severe anymore i dont undertand all much about this treatment it dampens her immune system and boosts her bone marrow? any advice tips or what to expect would be great! thanks

Are they going to give her a blood transfusion of just red blood cells? If they’re not doing a bone marrow transplant, then that might be what they’re doing. The only advice I can give you without knowing for sure it that’s what she’s having, is this; it’s very important you keep away from her if you feel a cold coming on or you have any type of illness that she could catch simply because her immune system is compromised and she won’t be able to fight off infection as easily as you and I can. So that’s the most important thing to keep in mind. Does she live with you or is she out on her own? If she’s home, you can help her from getting to tired by offering to do things for her. She will need some help because she is going to get very tired from time to time. You know your sister better than anyone. You know her likes and dislikes so only you can really help her. I hope she does well. God bless you for wanting to help her.

i am an Ethiopian recently diagnosed with aplastic anemia. Where can i find treatment nearby?

July 26th, 2010 by admin

The doctors recommended me bone marrow transplantation. i want to do it but i can’t afford the medical expenses. What other options do i have? Write me soon please.

I am sorry to hear that but I live in the US now and only know of the hospitals in Boston that do this. They are the best in the world in my opinion. But as far as Ethiopia. you should try the Internet in your country. Perhaps there is a hospital there. Start with your country, that is your best bet. Sorry, can’t give you any other help. I will pray for you though. God bless you. And good luck. Hope you find what you need.

Curing Sickle Cell with Unmatched Bone Marrow

July 24th, 2010 by admin

Dr. Shalini Shenoy, director of the bone marrow transplant program at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, is leading successful research into curing sickle cell anemia with bone marrow transplantation. Reduced intensity pre-transplant conditioning has made it possible to transplant patients from unmatched bone marrow donors, widening the net of potential donors and giving more young patients a chance to receive a bone marrow transplant, and a cure for their sickle cell.

Need some help!!Urgent(Treatment for anemia+diabetes) patient…?

July 20th, 2010 by admin

My grandma has diabetes about 20years something, so she need to take a lot of medicine to control the disease. Last month, she went to see the doctor, then the doctor told her, because she took a lot of medicine for a long period, so she got kidney problem…
But today, the doctor told my grandma, she got anemia…But my grandma cannot take a lot of medicine anymore, so suggest me few "natural" treatments that can increase her red blood cell???

I need suitable foods or drinks with no sugar (Just like i said, my grandma has diabetes)& NO medicine..
Thanks…
Maybe she can has some pill that gain more red blood as long as it does not hurt her kidney…

She can eat green leafy veggies, berries, chicken, things like that.

Without knowing the kidney problem, it’s hard to suggest much.

Spinach has a lot of iron in it.

She can drink English Breakfast Tea (has no caffeine in it), crystal light, caffeine free diet soft drinks, milk.

Liver has a lot of iron in it, but may exacerbate kidney problems due to the protein.

I have diabetes and no meds either. I just carefully watch what I eat, and when I eat bad things, it’s in small controlled portions so I don’t spike too much.

She can even eat a little sugar free chocolate in moderation.

Can she take iron pills?

5 ounces of dry red wine can help a lot too!

Treatment for hereditary anemia?

July 17th, 2010 by admin

I am in my early 20s and I live a very healthy lifestyle with regards to food, exercise and managing stress.

One thing that has always plagued me is fatigue. It has been getting worse, to the point where when I am driving home at 5 PM, I can barely keep my eyes open and usually cannot keep driving unless I use caffeine or another stimulant.

When I was born, the doctor said I (might be?) anemic. A few years ago another doctor saw the results of my blood test and asked me if I was anemic. He said my blood cell shape might be long instead of round.

I am going to get a full evaluation of my blood, but what can I expect? What type of anemia could I possibly have? What treatments are available?

What is your racial group?. Is there any one else in family with history of anaemia-especially on male side(ruling out ordinary female anaemias)
Certain types of anaemia are more common in certain racial groups.
as a guidline -not definitive e.g.
negroid -sickle cell disease/trait-if present probably trait.
Mediterranean -thalassaemia

there are obviously many other different types of anaemia but your tests will sort it out for you
