What are the symptoms of Anemia?

June 8th, 2010 by admin

i think i may be anaemic, but can you please tell me what the symptoms are?
My symptoms are that i am always really tired, and lack energy, even when i get 8 hours sleep!

Your symptoms could be caused ny a lot of different things, so it would be best to visit your doctor for a check up. I had the same symptoms as you and it turned out to be a thyroid condition.

Breathlessness, pale complexion and fatigue are some signs of anaemia but there are more.

If you have any heavier than normal bleeding, ie menstral etc you should definitely be checked out.
In a normal check up with your symptoms, the doctor will check for anaemia/thyroid etc anyway.

Good luck, I hope you keep well.

Tiredness is one sign… The doc diagnosed me because of my pale complexion..so loss of colour is another. Go to your g.p to check it out… it’s easily fixed with iron supplement tablets.

There can also be underlying problems which cause the anemia in the first place.. Stomach ulcers bleeding and so forth.

Symptoms common to many types of anaemia include the following:

Unusually rapid heart beat, particularly with exercise
Shortness of breath and headache, particularly with exercise
    Difficulty concentrating
    Dizziness
    Pale skin
    Leg cramps
    Insomnia

    Anemia caused by iron deficiency:
Hunger for strange substances such as paper, ice, or dirt (a condition called pica).
Upward curvature of the nails referred to as koilonychias.

Common symptoms of anemia include severe fatigue, shortness of breath, diminished activity level, reduced overall feeling of well-being and possible mental dysfunction.

Faster heart beat to get the fewer normal number of red blood cells around the body (which could lead to a heart condition in the long term).

Iron, folic acid, amino acids, and vitamins are all important components of the development and building of red blood cells. Leafy green vegetables, eggs, fruit, legumes, grains and meats should be included in the diet of a person who has anemia.

    Hope this helps.

Tiredness – lack of complexion colour – pull the lower rims of your eyes down, they should be a bright pink and not a pale colour. Also gums may be pale. Maybe you are getting too much sleep. Pick up on foods containing iron, liver, spinach and eggs. You should see a doctor who will put you right on any foods/medication you may need.

There are several common symptoms that can be related to anemia, but can also be confused with a bad diet/sleeping pattern also.

    the main ones include.

    Faintness
    Hair loss
    Faint headaches,
    Heavy sleep patterns
    Poor complexion
    General weakness in muscles etc..

If your worried about it, go to your local gp for a check up…

    hope this helps..

looking pale and tired among other things but it’s much better if you consult your doctor to get a diagnosis.

maybe you lack iron in your diet. try eating iron-rich food like eggs or tuna.
